SPSA collected 309 tons of aluminum in 2006 - enough to make four 747 jets.
SPSA recycled enough office, newsprint and cardboard in 2006 to save over 250,000 trees.
SPSA recycled 1,692 tons of glass in 2006 - enough to make 13.53 million baby food jars.
SPSA recycled over 3 million pounds of plastic in 2006 - enough to make over 370,000 soda bottles (2-liter).
SPSA recycled over 1.3 million pounds of tin and steel in 2006 - that's enough tin and steel to make 13,000 refrigerators.
SPSA recycled 42,794 cubic yards of yard waste in 2006 - that's enough to make over 577,000 bags of mulch and compost.

Business Sense SPSA Business Advisory Council Newsletter, Business Sense, "Coming Soon". SPSA Business Advisory Council The mission statement of the SPSA Business Advisory Council is as follows: The members of the SPSA Business Advisory Council support the need for a regional approach to the reuse, recycling, reduction and environmentally-sound disposal of the municipal solid waste generated by the residents and businesses of Hampton Roads. We are serving on the Business Advisory Council to advise SPSA on how to meet this mission during the next ten years that remain before its current member locality agreements expire at the end of 2017. The members will also provide advice to SPSA on how most effectively to continue regional waste management services in the future, the years 2018 and beyond. The Business Advisory Council will learn about and provide comment on the recent changes SPSA has made to reduce its costs and increase its efficiency. Members will also learn about and have an opportunity to give advice on the variety of proposals currently under consideration by SPSA’s Board to make sure SPSA maintains a positive course to meet the future waste management needs of its Hampton Roads customers and member localities.
