ISO 14001 CERTIFIED

In April 2005, SPSA received ISO 14001 certification as an organization, which we view as independent confirmation of what we have said time and again: SPSA cares for the environment.

Established by the International Organization for Standardization, ISO 14001 is an international, voluntary standard that facilitates proactive management of an organization’s environmental activities.  At the core of ISO 14001 is the environmental management system or EMS, which outlines a structured methodology to identify, organize and control, and continually improve a business’ impacts on the environment.  Implementing an effective EMS requires a paradigm shift from the old mind set of meeting only the minimum regulatory requirements to going beyond compliance to continually improve environmental performance.

Achieving ISO 14001 certification solidifies SPSA’s position as a leader and pacesetter in the solid waste management industry, a very prominent role bearing great responsibility which SPSA proudly accepts.

SPSA's level of commitment to our EMS and our ISO 14001 certification are further demonstrated by our Exemplary Environmental Enterprise (E3) participation in the DEQ Virginia Environmental Excellence Program and our recent selection as the Governor's Environmental Excellence Award Recipient for pollution prevention activities at our Waste-To-Energy Facilities.

When it comes to protecting the environment, SPSA does more that what is required, we do what is right!
