Did you know....
SPSA collected 309 tons of aluminum in 2006 - enough to make four 747 jets.
SPSA recycled enough office, newsprint and cardboard in 2006 to save over 250,000 trees.
SPSA recycled 1,692 tons of glass in 2006 - enough to make 13.53 million baby food jars.
SPSA recycled over 3 million pounds of plastic in 2006 - enough to make over 370,000 soda bottles (2-liter).
SPSA recycled over 1.3 million pounds of tin and steel in 2006 - that's enough tin and steel to make 13,000 refrigerators.
SPSA recycled 42,794 cubic yards of yard waste in 2006 - that's enough to make over 577,000 bags of mulch and compost.

PRESS ROOM SPSA Martin Luther King Day Holiday Schedules (Chesapeake, VA – January 16, 2008) – For the Monday, January 21, 2008 Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Day holiday, all of SPSA administrative offices will be closed. Also, the following operating facilities will be closed for the holiday: Suffolk Transfer Station, 1 Bob Foeller Drive; the Oceana Transfer Station, 2025 Virginia Beach Boulevard; and the Yard Waste Mulching Facility, 1991 Jake Sears Road, Virginia Beach. The following operating facilities will be open one-half day:
Also, the only curbside recycling routes affected by the holiday are those within the City of Chesapeake. The curbside recycling routes scheduled for the 21st will be serviced on Wednesday January 23, 2008. No other communities’ routes are affected by the holiday.
