SPSA recycled 1,692 tons of glass in 2006 - enough to make 13.53 million baby food jars.
SPSA recycled over 3 million pounds of plastic in 2006 - enough to make over 370,000 soda bottles (2-liter).
SPSA recycled over 1.3 million pounds of tin and steel in 2006 - that's enough tin and steel to make 13,000 refrigerators.
SPSA recycled 42,794 cubic yards of yard waste in 2006 - that's enough to make over 577,000 bags of mulch and compost.

PRESS ROOM SPSA Restructuring Announcements Expected At SPSA Board Meeting (January 23, 2007; Chesapeake, Virginia) -- The Southeastern Public Service Authority (SPSA), will hold its January Board of Directors meeting on Wednesday, January 24, at 9:30 a.m. The meeting will be held in its customary location in the Regional Board Room, 723 Woodlake Drive, Chesapeake. SPSA has been providing efficient and environmentally sound waste disposal services to the region and its residents since 1985. SPSA’s solid waste management system includes waste-to-energy, yard waste composting, drop-off and curbside recycling as well as other recycling programs, household hazardous waste collection, landfilling, landfill gas-to-energy and education programs. This integrated waste management system enables SPSA to put 57% of the waste it receives to a beneficial use, thus allowing the region to reduce its dependence on landfills.
