PRESS ROOM

SPSA to Issue Request for Proposals for Landfill
Disposal Capacity

(May 23, 2007 Chesapeake, VA) – At the Southeastern Public Service Authority’s (SPSA) Board of Directors meeting today, Executive Director John Hadfield provided a copy of a draft request for proposals (RFP) for landfill disposal capacity. The RFP will be issued in the first week of June 2007. SPSA is issuing the RFP for competitive landfill options as compared to a SPSA-owned and operated landfill. If it is found that the private sector can offer this service for less, then SPSA will strongly consider the option of using a private landfill service.
Involved in the RFP development has been the Intergovernmental Coordinating Committee. The ICC is a standing committee of SPSA comprised generally of public works officials from the SPSA member communities. The ICC is assisting in reviewing the RFP document and in establishing timelines, capacity requirements, and evaluation criteria.
RFP responses will be due back in approximately one month from the time of RFP issuance. For additional information, contact Felicia Blow at (757) 420-4700.
