SPSA collected 309 tons of aluminum in 2006 - enough to make four 747 jets.
SPSA recycled enough office, newsprint and cardboard in 2006 to save over 250,000 trees.
SPSA recycled 1,692 tons of glass in 2006 - enough to make 13.53 million baby food jars.
SPSA recycled over 3 million pounds of plastic in 2006 - enough to make over 370,000 soda bottles (2-liter).
SPSA recycled over 1.3 million pounds of tin and steel in 2006 - that's enough tin and steel to make 13,000 refrigerators.
SPSA recycled 42,794 cubic yards of yard waste in 2006 - that's enough to make over 577,000 bags of mulch and compost.

SPSA July 4th Holiday Schedule
(Chesapeake, VA) – In observance of the Independence Day Holiday, the Southeastern Public Service Authority (SPSA) will close its administrative offices on Friday, July 4, 2008 along with the Virginia Beach Landfill and the Suffolk Transfer Station.
The Chesapeake, Franklin, Norfolk, Landstown, Oceana and Isle of Wight Transfer Stations will be open 1/2 day only.
The Refuse Derived Fuel (RFD) Plant and the Regional Landfill in Suffolk will observe a regular work day on the 4th.
Curbside recycling collections will take place as normal if they are scheduled for the 4th. All SPSA offices and facilities will resume normal operations on Monday, July 7th.
