SPSA, AREA LOCALITIES SET CHRISTMAS TREE DISPOSAL SCHEDULES

(CHESAPEAKE, VA, January 5, 2007) – Christmas trees in communities served by the Southeastern Public Service Authority are being collected at curbside by local public works departments.
Residents of Virginia Beach may also take their trees to SPSA’s yard waste facility at 1991 Jake Sears Road for processing.  The facility is open Mondays through Saturdays between 7 a.m. and 4:30 p.m., according to Dean Arrington, SPSA’s yard waste superintendent.
Residents are being reminded to remove all ornaments, tinsel and other decorations before.
For answers to specific questions, customers are asked to contact their local public works or sanitation department.

SPSA has been providing efficient and environmentally sound waste disposal services to the region and its residents since 1985. SPSA’s solid waste management system includes waste-to-energy, yard waste composting, drop-off and curbside recycling as well as other recycling programs, household hazardous waste collection, landfilling, landfill gas-to-energy and education programs. This integrated waste management system enables SPSA to put 57% of the waste it receives to a beneficial use, thus allowing the region to reduce its dependence on landfills.
