SPSA to Hold Public Meeting on
Proposed Permit for Regional Landfill in Suffolk

(Chesapeake, VA – October 31, 2007) – The Southeastern Public Service Authority (SPSA) plans to apply for a solid waste permit to construct and operate a seventh landfill cell at its Regional Landfill in Suffolk.  The proposed Cell VII will be located on a 69-acre parcel adjacent to the existing landfill.
           A public meeting will be held in the Suffolk Transfer Station conference room, located at the Regional Landfill at 1 Bob Foeller Drive in Suffolk on Monday, November 19, 2007 at 6:00 PM to allow interested parties to obtain information about the proposed project. (Two public notices are to be placed in the Suffolk Sun regarding this meeting.)

SPSA has been providing efficient and environmentally sound waste disposal services to the region and its residents since 1985. SPSA’s solid waste management system includes waste-to-energy, yard waste composting, drop-off and curbside recycling as well as other recycling programs, household hazardous waste collection, landfilling, landfill gas-to-energy and education programs. This integrated waste management system enables SPSA to put 57% of the waste it receives to a beneficial use, thus allowing the region to reduce its dependence on landfills.
