G. Timothy Oksman
G. Timothy Oksman, has
served as Portsmouth's City Attorney since 1995. A Brooklyn native, he was
raised in Great Neck, Long Island. He is a 1972 graduate of the University
of Virginia Law School, he also received a Bachelor's Degree from Hobart College
and a Master's Degree from New York University.
A Vietnam veteran with the
U.S. Army Engineer Corps, Oksman has also served as the Richmond City Attorney,
practiced law with Shuford, Rubin and Oksman, served as the County of Henrico
Assistant County Attorney and served as the Staff Attorney for the Virginia
Appellate Justice Project, working with the Supreme Court of Virginia.
He is admitted to practice
before all state courts, the United States District Court for the Eastern
District of Virginia, the Fourth Circuit Court of Appeals and the Supreme Court
of the United States. He is the co-founder of the Local Government
Attorneys of Virginia, Inc., and has served as Chairman of the Judiciary
Committee of the Virginia State Bar, a also a member of the Boyd-Graves
Conference, served on the Governor's Regulatory Reform Advisory Commission under
Governor Robb, and is a member of the Virginia Board of Commerce.
Mr. Oksman has been
married for 30 years and has one child attending Old Dominion University and
another at the United States Merchant Marine Academy.
