FACILITIES : WASTE-TO-ENERGY : RDF PLANT

RDF Plant

The Refuse Derived Fuel (RDF) Plant began operation in January 1988 as part of SPSA's waste-to-energy system. Located at 4 Victory Boulevard in Portsmouth, the RDF Plant processes approximately 43 percent of the solid waste received by SPSA, converting it into fuel. A Proprietary Waste Disposal Program operated at the RDF Plant allows businesses to safely and completely dispose of items such as confidential files, off-specification consumer products, pharmaceuticals, and out-of-date products. Also at the plant, aluminum and ferrous metals are removed for recycling.
