SPSA Statement on General Assembly “Study” Resolutions

(January 11, 2008; Chesapeake, VA) -- The Southeastern Public Service Authority (SPSA) is aware of two study resolutions that have been introduced in the Virginia General Assembly. Both request reviews of certain aspects of SPSA’s solid waste management system.

SPSA is a public agency and welcomes involvement in the study of the operations and management of South Hampton Roads’ regional solid waste disposal system. SPSA has always opened its doors to public review of its operations and will continue to cooperate with the any third-party activities that seek to enhance long-term management of the region’s waste.

However, SPSA believes that such reviews are best conducted through the auspices of the localities rather than a state agency since no state funds are involved in its operations.
